Deer, Black Bear, Bear, Coyote, Turkey, Grouse, Waterfoul, Cowbird, Crow, Game, Hare, Raccoon, Rabbit, Squirrel, Whitetail Deer, Woodcock
Over 400 acres of private hunting land of upland hardwood forest and cedar swamp. The recent timber harvest means excellent hunting. Disturbance, less cover and more edges. Deer, Bear, Grouse, Turkey and Waterfowl and many more are all on offer on this pristine wilderness paradise with the correct permits through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The upland forest was selectively harvested (2020 & 2021) and the game habitat is improved as there is more young growth. The cedar swamp is extremely wet and dense. The game on this property is wild, there are no high fences, no guided tours, and the deer were not raised on a farm. The deer usually leave the area when the snow gets deep. There are 8 rustic deer blinds and lots of openings and trails that make excellent shooting lanes. We recommend you set up your own blinds, we are not maintaining these blinds. Use at your own risk. We still have exclusive hunting and cabin availability during bow season, Oct 1-Nov 14, and Dec 1- 31. We can offer discounted rates from Tuesday to Thursday.
During firearm season, Nov 15-Nov 30, you can rent the cabin and hunt on the western half of the property.
Every hunter must provide proof of valid homeowners or renters insurance that covers themselves for a minimum of 300,000 general liability.
You will need proper county, state of Michigan and federal hunting permitting and recommend insurance for hunting on privately owned tracts in Kalkaska County. Kalkaska County has antler point restrictions (3 points on a side) and plenty of doe tags.
Over 4 miles of trails. East of our property is a large tract of public MDNR land that is primarily forested with young aspen.
Please contact us with questions and we can schedule a time for you to scout out the property. Thanks, Susan and Bryce Metcalfe.
8 Hunters Maximum. 2 nights minimum. Bookings of less than 2 days will not be accepted. Hunters must comply with Michigan State Hunting laws, be aware that Kalkaska is an antler restricted state. Timber harvesting is finished. No shooting at the trees, there is a range along the power line to use for distance shooting. Do not put nails or metal in the trees.
All motorized vehicles must stay on the trail system, do not spin tires or tear up the ground. The trail system is periodically maintained for your convenience but it is easily rutted. Please be respectful of our trails. You must drive under 10 mph on the property due to safety regulations. There are areas with deep holes close by the trails. Watch your step around these areas. Safe, sober and responsible behavior and driving is imperative on the trails. No alcohol or drug use.
